Mental Health Nursing

The Department of Mental Health Nursing at Mar Sleeva College of Nursing Palai is committed to nurturing competent and compassionate mental health nursing professionals through excellence in education, clinical training, research, and community-based mental healthcare initiatives.

Mental Health Nursing is a dynamic and expanding specialty that focuses on promoting emotional resilience, preventing mental health disorders, and providing compassionate care for individuals experiencing psychological challenges. The department strives to equip nursing students with the knowledge, clinical competence, and interpersonal skills required to deliver effective mental healthcare in diverse healthcare settings.

The department actively engages in community mental health promotion through psychoeducation programmes conducted in schools, colleges, and public settings to create awareness about mental health, stress management, substance abuse prevention, and the importance of early identification and treatment of mental health problems. These activities aim to reduce stigma, encourage help-seeking behaviour, and promote psychological well being within the community.

Through innovative teaching methods, evidence-based practice, and holistic approaches to care, the department prepares future nurses to become confident mental health professionals who can contribute meaningfully to mental healthcare services, patient rehabilitation, and the advancement of community mental health services.
